Interior Design & Murals - Ohio Tavern

Location: Ohio Tavern 224 Ohio Ave, Madison, WI

One of my favorite things to do is transform spaces. In addition to painting, I love interior design and creating a vibe.

We just finished updating The Ohio Tavern, where I helped with everything from the interior design (bar design, lighting, wall and stain colors, bathroom sinks, mirrors, plants, corner cushions, even down to the toilet paper holders) in addition to the murals. Completely gutted, with the bar torn out and plaster removed, it was a lot of work in a short period for the first month, but we managed to give the space a makeover in time for a soft opening the end of May. I’m still working on some pieces, like corner cushions and an outdoor mural, but you can stop by and see the incredible change in person.

A highlight was getting a text that “we found brick!” when the destruction started behind the bar. Late nights researching lighting, sinks, etc. and a 6am phone call about an intuitive hit I had that we should make the front bar planks horizontal the day it was going to be made, all lead to the space becoming the current chill atmosphere with a touch of sleek. Owner, Josh, wanted to make the place sexy, while still maintaining the general vibe and I feel I nailed it. They are open for business and now serving oysters, with karaoke on Saturdays, so go and see for yourself. Maybe see you there!
