Meriter Hospital Mural

I had the honor of creating a mural for the group room in the Adult Psychiatry program at Unity Point Meriter Hospital in Madison, WI. The room is used for various group sessions, including educational and relaxation activities, all designed to support healing for patients in need of psychiatric care. They were looking for a soothing, comforting, safe, and welcoming feel. This brought about a discussion that a calming landscape with gold and turquoise tones would work best.

The initial designs are always fun to discover, and I was so happy that they chose the one they did. There was a second concept that would have also worked beautifully, and I’m hoping to paint it for them in the future. I had a wonderful time working with everyone here. The staff really made me feel welcomed and at home for my time creating this mural for them.

The image reflects an openness and brings a sense of peace. The sunrise is a sign of a new dawn, with nature embracing us through the scene. The beautiful colors speak to us with a vibrancy and joy, while invoking tranquility. I hope this mural brings a rejuvenating connection within for all those who see it.
