ATTA Mural
This was a collaboration with the Making Justice Program at The Bubbler at Madison Public Library
I worked together with the first resident of a newly designed program in the Detention Center of Madison, WI, where we created a design that would inspire future residents while brightening the space. ATTA (Assessment, Treatment, Transition, and Aftercare)
Asking the resident what he would like included in the mural brought a deep conversation that translated into a brightly colored image including a tree, which he enjoys drawing, and the Latin words for “I came, I saw, I conquered.” We spent a few weeks together painting and talking about how I became an artist, how I handle stress and, just life. We created a gift for staff and residents to come, who have already commented how they feel at peace seeing this image. After we finished, we set an intention - This mural represents growth, vibrancy and peace, with an intention of love and finding personal power from the light within.
I’m grateful to be invited into this project and looking forward to connecting through teaching meditation techniques with the student after explaining that’s the ticket that gave me confidence to be where I am today.
